In October 2018, undergraduate students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute assisted Nantucket Public Works Department to conduct a waste characterization study— what is in our trash? As a community, are we sorting well enough? The findings below offer answers for what was found in “Compostable Waste” and in the new “Non-Recyclable, Non-Compostable Waste.”

Good information like this can teach us how to sort better. Thanks to WPI for getting to the bottom of it….literally!
