Did You Know That Invasive European Green Crabs Threaten Nantucket’s Aquatic Resources?

Brought to you by The Nantucket Land Council and The Maria Mitchell Association

Join the Maria Mitchell Association and Nantucket Land Council for the first annual Nantucket Green Crab Week! Between August 10 – 14 they will be posting daily content about invasive green crabs and what you can do to help.

Nantucket Green Crab WeekEach day this week (August 10 – August 14), these two organizations will share opportunities to learn more about green crabs and ways you can help us reduce the threat of this invasive species. Check below for daily green crab content, including informational videos, cooking lessons, live lectures, and the chance to participate in green crab research through a Citizen Science survey!

European green crabs were first introduced to North America in the 1800s, likely traveling in ballast water of merchant ships from Europe. This invasive species is now abundant on Nantucket and threatening crucial aquatic resources, including eelgrass beds, shellfish populations, and native crab communities here on the island.

Join them this week for informational videos, cooking lessons, live lectures, the chance to participate in green crab research, and more! See below for our official schedule:
